Oakdale Water Main Project – West Side Water Test Shut-offs

Wednesday, May 28

The Oakland County Water Resources Commission (WRC) is conducting inspections of the valves on all of the streets that intersect with Oakdale. This is to ensure that we can achieve a shutdown of the water mains to complete the connection of the new Oakdale water main to the existing water system in a week or two. Residents on Cambridge, Hanover, Norwich, Elm Park Ave, Kenberton, and Woodside Park should expect interruptions to your water service over the coming days.

WRC began work on Cambridge and will be working their way through the remainder of the streets. With our old infrastructure, it can sometimes take some time for WRC to be able to get the valves closed and acheive a shutdown. WRC crews are also sometimes pulled away by urgent water issues in other communities. As such, we do not have an exact schedule for when each street will be impacted.

After water service is restored, residents may see brown water from the sediment on the inside of the water mains being disturbed. If you experience brown water, run the faucet closest to the water meter (usually a basement laundry tub is best) until the water runs clear. This usually takes anywhere between 5 and 15 minutes to clear.
