The Pleasant Ridge Police have received certification for our use of force policy from the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police. This approval certifies that our use of force policy meets the requirements of the Presidential Executive Order on Safe Policing issued June 16, 2020.
Pleasant Ridge is in the first group of Michigan police agencies to receive certification that our use of force policy meets federal standards. Specifically, the Presidential Executive Order requires that use of force policies include de-escalation techniques, performance management tools to help identify officers who may require intervention, best practices for community engagement, and a prohibition on the use of chokeholds except in situations where the use of deadly force is allowed by law.
We are proud that our use of force policy meets all of the current best practices and Federal and State requirements.
